Henry Dwyer Racing – Sunday Preview

The Henry Dwyer Racing stable has two runners today in MIDNIGHT VAGRANT and BUDD FOX running at Warrnambool.

Warrnambool – Good (4)

The track has come up a Good 4 after plenty of irrigation was put on overnight but with fine weather forecast expect that to get up to a Good 3 early in the meeting. Generally speaking, Warrnambool has been playing well of late and you’d expect the same again.

Although only into its fourth year, the Jericho Cup has already etched out a really important part on the racing calendar. The contribution of founder Bill Gibbins to this event has been enormous, not only for the hard work he put in to get it going but the fact he has stumped up the prizemoney for the first four editions.

Race 1 (12.40pm) Harry Bell 3YO Maiden Plate

No.4 MIDNIGHT VAGRANT – Tahlia Hope (Barrier 8)

MIDNIGHT VAGRANT heads to Warrnambool today where he will make his debut in a 1400m Maiden. He has drawn gate eight and Tahlia Hope will ride.

MIDNIGHT VAGRANT has had four jump-outs leading in to this but they have been more educational than testing gallops. The 1400m looks a nice kick-off point for this gelding who does look like he will continue to get out over a trip in time. He showed some ability in his recent jump-outs, when going to the line not fully tested.

He will get over 2000 metres plus so today is really a nice starting point and he should be working into it late to hopefully finish in the first half of the field.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $71 (as at 8am)

Race 8 (4.55pm) Haymes Paint Jericho Cup

No.2 BUDD FOX – Arron Lynch (Barrier 12)

BUDD FOX heads to the ‘Bool today where he will tackle the gruelling 4600m Jericho Cup. He has drawn gate twelve and Arron Lynch rides.

BUDD FOX was beaten out of sight by True Marvel at The Valley last time out, but plenty were and that galloper went on to run well at Caulfield on Zipping Classic Day. He should be at peak fitness now fourth-up and this has been a target race from the outset. He looks in great order and has done plenty of work for today’s assignment. HEBERITE and WILJOHN are clearly the two horses to beat, but how guy will stay all day.

While the firm track will suit, the only slight concern is the windy course the Jericho Cup throws up for a horse that likes a big, flat horse like him. He will run as well as he can and if he’s good enough he’s good enough and hopefully he will be fighting out the finish.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $14 (as at 8am)
