Race 1 (12.35pm) Bet365 Top Tote Plus 3YO Fillies Maiden
No.8 MARTHA LAVINIA – Tahlia Hope (Barrier 3)
MARTHA LAVINA heads to Donald today where she will make her debut in a 1200m 3YO Fillies Maiden. She has drawn gate three and Tahlia Hope rides.
MARTHA LAVINA debuts on the back of a Cranbourne trial and St Arnaud jump-out. She was restrained to settle at the tail of the field in that recent Cranbourne trial before coming wide in the straight and making steady late headway, albeit under a bit of riding. She moved well in the St Arnaud jump-out prior and there’s some ability there. This is a pretty tough maiden but the 1200m from a soft draw looks a nice kick off point to her career.
It’s a good track for her debut today and she has drawn a good gate, she is very green still and today is going to be a steep learning curve. She has an engine there, but today will be more about seeing her running on strongly rather than being a winning chance here.

Race 5 (2.50pm) Petrogas Maiden Plate
No.4 MONTECAIN – Michael Poy (Barrier 7)
MONTECAIN also heads to Donald today where he will tackle a 2000m Maiden. He has drawn gate seven and Michael Poy will ride.
MONTECAIN was scratched from Echuca yesterday for today and he finds himself with a good barrier and on a nice track. It’s a big step up in distance from 1300 metres first-up, but the 2000 metres will be able to give us a good look at him today to see him finish off. He will settle where he is comfortable and he will strip fitter for his first-up run, he is still learning so it will be another good opportunity for him to do that again today. Not a betting proposition against some strong competition here today.
