The Henry Dwyer Racing stable has one runner today in MONTECAIN running at Echuca.
Echuca – Soft (5)
The track has come up a Soft 5 after 5mm of rain for the week. It’s good to see this track finally dry out after being waterlogged all winter. I suspect the inside will be OK as at recent meetings they have used the outside half of the track. Generally speaking, Echuca is a track that gives those closer to the speed some edge.
Race 2 (1pm) Moama Bowling Club Maiden Plate
No.3 MONTECAIN – John Allen (Barrier 1)
MONTECAIN makes his debut at Echuca today where he will contest a 1300m Maiden. He has drawn gate one and John Allen will ride.
MONTECAIN has a tongue tie on for this debut and he heads to the races on the back of two jump-outs this campaign. His first jump-out on the synthetic at Ballarat he worked to the line fairly under pretty significant riding over the concluding stages. He got onto the turf at Geelong last start where he spotted the leading duo a big start before working home OK under riding late. The 1300m is certainly suitable for him on debut as he looks like he will get out over a trip and hopefully Johnny Allen can use gate one to be somewhat prominent in the early stages.
There are a couple of handy horses in this maiden and while MONTECAIN looks to have some ability, he will be looking for further and from barrier 1 he might find plenty of traffic in the run. He will certainly acquit himself well and finish in the first half of the field today, with the mile next start more to his liking.
