He was there to be beaten a long way out, but The Siscos Kid showed all of his fighting qualities to lead all the way to break his maiden in the TAC Drinking Driving They’re Better Apart Maiden Plate at Stawell.
John Allen pushed forward from barrier 10 with the change of tactics to lead over the 1300 metres, but Allen wasn’t given an easy time of it, forced to ride three wide for the first 600 metres before pushing on to the front.
Around the corner he was entitled to weaken, however Allen kept his composure and forged ahead, in the end winning running away from the field by three lengths.
“It was a good win today, he probably did it the tough way as they made me do some work to get the lead, but I was happy to keep rolling on him and he kept responding and the more he got into the race the better he went,” said Allen.
“It was a good solid win and hopefully he can progress from here.”
Henry was also pleased with what four-year-old son of Danerich was able to produce to break his maiden status.
“He didn’t get it easy today, he was forced to do more work out of the gates than we had anticipated, for the first 600 metres he was working wide and trying to get across and by the time he took the lead, there was only another 600 metres left in the race and almost time to go again, so he didn’t really have a breather throughout the race,” said Henry.
“He’s done really well, the other horses that were on the speed with him have dropped out and he kept on finding and kept on kicking and obviously showed he is a better grade of horse than those he competed against today.
“It was an impressive win today, we will see how he pulls up as to where we goes next, the best is yet to come with him as he is still maturing mentally and he has benefit to come from today’s run.
