The Henry Dwyer Racing stable has one runner tonight with IRISH PLAYBOY at Pakenham.
Pakenham – Good (4)
The track at Pakenham has been racing very well of late and from the 1400m start they have a nice, long run into the home bend, so barriers are of less importance. With the long, 470m home straight horses can generally win from everywhere given even tempo.
The jockeys in this race are restricted to five whip strikes throughout the event as part of a Racing Victoria trial.
Race 7 (9pm) Club Hotel Warragul Heat 4 Country Mile
No.5 IRISH PLAYBOY – Michael Poy (Barrier 7)
IRISH PLAYBOY heads to Pakenham tonight where he will tackle a heat of the Country Mile Series over 1400m. He has drawn gate seven and Michael Poy will ride.
IRISH PLAYBOY has jumped-out nicely ahead of this resumption and he looks in for another good preparation after racing so well last time in. He was able to win first and third up last preparation and his only miss came at Ballarat when the race simply wasn’t run to suit, but he still got home in the best last 600/400m splits of the meeting. He will relish the long straight here at Pakenham and the long straight is ideal for his racing style. His form to date has all been in slower run races and this is likely to be a more high pressure affair, but there’s no reason to suggest he won’t cope with it.
He will benefit from the run in terms of fitness, but in saying that he is still a great winning chance.
