Gimme the Goss returned a winner today at Terang after a recent run of outs, albeit in higher grade, with the four-year-old mare chalking up her third win from 13 starts by taking out the NHD BM58 Handicap, with an eye on more to come.
“It was good to see her return to some sort of form today,” said Henry.
“Blinkers and a bit more fitness obviously did the trick with her today… the race panned out well for her, as the day wore on it became evident that the outside was clearly the place to be, which is where she got from the draw, despite laying in a bit down the straight,” said Henry.
“She will improve again with that run under her belt, she was getting a little bit tired late, but she had done a little bit of work early and was a bit keen around the corner, she was ripe for the picking for something to run her down late, but she was able to tough it out.
“Today was a good stepping stone from what she had been doing in her prep and I’m sure she will look to improve a little bit with that run under her belt,” said Henry.
Gimme the Goss isn’t the easiest horse to ride as she can be a bit aggresssive and one of the key changes implemented today was the appointment of a senior rider in John Allen, a coup given the Group 1 winning jockey wouldn’t always find himself riding at Terang.
“It was was a good win, she got a little bit tired late, but she had done enough by then to put the race to bed,” said Allen.
“She jumped well enough and relaxed in running, but as she went around the corner she got a little bit wide which I was happy to do as it was a bit quicker out there and she quickened up well, and despite laying in, she was never in doubt.
” She will take good improvement out of that and in a similar race she will be hard to beat.”
