Henry Dwyer Racing – Monday Preview

The Henry Dwyer Racing stable has three runners today with CRISTOFINA, SURE STRATEGY and GIMME THE GOSS at Terang.

Terang – Good (4)

Terang’s best feature is its lovely, long 400m home straight that generally gives the majority of horses their winning chance. It can be a tricky track in summer when excessive amounts of artificial irrigation are required. As at midday Sunday, the track was a Soft 5 thanks to 41mm of artificial watering and while it will dry to a Good 4 for the commencement of racing, it’s important to check for any patterns throughout the day as the best ground can often be right out wide.

Race 1 (1.30pm) Bet 365 Top Tote Plus 3YO Maiden Plate

No.9 CRISTOFINA– Michael Poy (Barrier 5)

CRISTOFINA resumes at Terang today where she will contest a 1200m Maiden. She has drawn gate five and Michael Poy will ride.

CRISTOFINA never fired a shot after having a nice run on the leader’s back when debuting at Mornington last preparation. She will no doubt derive benefit from that racetrack outing and a good break will have done her the world of good. In her recent Cranbourne trial the best part of her work was the last 100m and then her work past the post. She should get a nice run from gate five and the 1200m on a big track look ticks.

Today is just a starting point and she will need the run today, with a view to getting over more distance and being more competitive later this campaign.

Race 3 (2.30pm) Southwest Dairy Services Maiden Plate

No.14 SURE STRATEGY – Michael Poy (Barrier 4)

SURE STRATEGY also heads to Terang today where she will contest a 1400m Maiden. She has drawn gate four and Michael Poy will ride.

SURE STRATEGY is on the reasonably quick back-up after running over a mile at Moe last Sunday where she had a nice trialling run before totally dropping out of the concluding stages – it was a run that was too bad to be true. She is drawn ideally here form gate four to lob right near the speed and back onto a bigger track should give her every opportunity to improve. Her best would be competitive, but hard to confidently suggest she will run to that after last start.

She has had a couple of gallops since her last run and she has coped with them well enough, she looks fit but whether she has the endeavour to want to do it is another thing. She should get a good run from the barrier but more so hoping than expecting today.

Race 7 (4.30pm) NHD BM58 Handicap

No.7 GIMME THE GOSS– John Allen (Barrier 10)

GIMME THE GOSS is our third runner at Terang today where she will contest a 1000m BM58. She has drawn gate ten and John Allen will ride.

GIMME THE GOSS gets the blinkers on for the first time here and drops from 1112m to 1000m. She covered a bit of ground at Kilmore last start but ultimately was pretty plain late. She has been back to the jump-outs between runs and she went well with the shades on. Given how she jumped out, she might be hard to run down and with the blinkers on for the first time the wide draw might not be a negative as it will allow John Allen time to balance up and work forward. Her best form is good enough to be racing in much better grade and hopefully the blinkers can do the trick.

She is fitter for recent racing and her trial, the 1000 metres is more suitable and John Allen is a big tick, the main danger here is DU WELL but GIMME THE GOSS is a clear second pick and can take out the race.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $4.60 (as at 8am)
