The Henry Dwyer Racing stable has four runners today at Ballarat in THE SISCOS KID, CANOBIE LEA, IRISH PLAYBOY and GALAXY GHOST.
The track is rated a Good 4 and strong northerly winds will likely have some impact on racing.
Ballarat – Good (4)
Race 3 (2pm) The Haymarket Maiden Plate
No.4 THE SISCOS KID – Ben Allen (Barrier 8)
THE SISCOS KID heads to Ballarat today where he will tackle a 1400m 3YO + Maiden. He has drawn gate ten and Ben Allen will ride.
THE SISCOS KID resumed from a little nine-week let up with a super run at Geelong over 1400m. He covered more ground than the early settlers there but still stuck on gamely to run third, albeit in a race that didn’t exactly break the clock. It was a much-improved run from THE SISCOS KID and maybe some of that was getting onto a firm track for the first time, although he also didn’t have much luck at Echuca on debut. There’s a bit more depth to this but he will no doubt continue to improve.
He will be ridden quietly today and will be running on late, but might find a few of these too smart. We will get a good guide today on where he’s at and he will give a good account of himself.
TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $15 (as at 8am)
No.11 CANOBIE LEA – Michael Poy (Barrier 14)
CANOBIE LEA is in the same race and has drawn gate fourteen and Michael Poy will ride.
Wide barrier certainly not ideal and she will be ridden quietly today and settle near the tail, riding for luck on the home turn. She is going to appreciate more distance and there is ability there which we will see when she gets over a decent trip. Today is a good learning curve for her and hoping to see her run on late and pass a few on the way.
TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $101 (as at 8am)

Race 6 (3.40pm) Porter Plant BM64 Handicap
No.2 IRISH PLAYBOY – Michael Poy (Barrier 10)
IRISH PLAYBOY also heads to Ballarat today where he will tackle a 1600m BM64 (Race 6, 3.40pm). He has drawn gate ten and Michael Poy will ride.
IRISH PLAYBOY returned from a short spell in fine style at Bendigo, putting away a handy field of Class 1 gallopers over the 1400m. The little query getting out to the mile today is that there doesn’t look to be a huge amount of speed in this race so that’s not ideal for his pattern given he does like to get back and chase them home, which we won’t be changing today. If he brings the same rating he did last start, he’s clearly the horse to beat.
He’s in really good order and IRISH PLAYBOY will be running home strongly at the finish.
TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $3.30 (as at 8am)

Race 7 (4.10pm) Hygain Winners Choice BM64 Handicap
No.7 GALAXY GHOST – Michael Poy (Barrier 1)
GALAXY GHOST is our final runner at Ballarat where he will contest a 1400m BM64. He has drawn gate one and Michael Poy will ride.
GALAXY GHOST broke through for an overdue win against very moderate opposition in restricted 0-58 grade at Wangaratta two back and seemed to relish the heavy conditions on that occasion. He then stepped straight back up to a handy BM64 at Geelong last start where he got buried away on the rails and he frankly had absolutely no luck from that point on and there’s no way in the world he should have finished back in ninth. He’s again drawn awkwardly in one but this isn’t any tougher than last start and with even luck he can be competitive.
PESKIJEN looks hard to beat here but GALAXY GHOST will run another good race today and with even luck he should finish in the first four.
TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $12 (as at 8am)
