Henry Dwyer Racing – Sunday Preview

The Henry Dwyer Racing stable has three runners today at Bendigo in MAGIC CITY, HIS LATEST FLAME and NORTHERN WOODS.

Bendigo is a Heavy 8 today and the rail is out 8m so the freshest ground is going to be closer to the outside fence and that’s where it is expected the winners will come from as the meeting unfolds.

Bendigo – Heavy (8)

Race 2 (12.35pm) Happy 90th Alan Simmo Simpson 3yo Maiden

No.1 MAGIC CITY – Michael Rodd (Barrier 4)

MAGIC CITY will make his debut in this 1000m Maiden. He has drawn gate four and Michael Rodd will take the ride.

MAGIC CITY has had a couple of recent jump-outs, where he was allowed to float and do his own thing, he doesn’t look like a ‘jump and run’ type, moreso a horse that will balance up early from a nice gate and try to reel them in up the straight. He will be ridden where he is comfortable which will be probably in the second half of the field. He hasn’t been put under much pressure in his trials so it is a bit unknown what he will produce under race conditions today.

Michael Poy, who has ridden him in trackwork, suggests he needs to be given a squeeze to get rolling, today he will only benefit from the run and hopefully he is competitive.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $14 (as at 8am)

Race 3 (1.15pm) Race Services 4yo+ Maiden Plate

No.8 HIS LATEST FLAME – Georgina Cartwright (Barrier 10)

HIS LATEST FLAME also heads to Bendigo where she will make her debut in the other 1000m Maiden. She has drawn gate ten and Georgina Cartwright will take the ride.

HIS LATEST FLAME is a 4YO daughter of Nicconi who has had two recent jump-outs at Caulfield and Burrumbeet. We run into a smart one today in BORN A WARRIOR and his presence and the heavy track has seen a few scratchings in the race. Drawn barrier ten which will be no disadvantage today, she will be ridden where she is comfortable and will be running on late. She hasn’t show a great deal in her jump outs to date, but with the blinkers and tongue tie going on and in a raceday scenario she might be able to improve a bit today.

Going in realistic today that whatever she produces she will be better for it and hopefully she can surprise with a finish in first half of the field or better.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $10 (as at 8am)

Race 4 (1.55pm) Bendigo Mg Maiden Plate

No.4 NORTHERN WOODS – Michael Rodd (Barrier 3)

NORTHERN WOODS will contest a 2400m Maiden, has drawn gate three and Michael Rodd takes the ride.

NORTHERN WOODS is racing like the 2400m will suit him and the heavy track is absolutely no issue judging by his past three runs. He worked really hard in the mid-stages of his recent run at Moe over 2050m in an attempt to work his way into the race from the tail and he was able to sustain that run to the post. From a slightly better draw, he should be more forward in the run today up to the 2400m in a race there looks to be no speed.

BOWNESS clearly the horse to beat, but NORTHERN WOODS looks a clear second pick.

TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $5.50 (as at 8am)
