Caulfield
Race 10 – Electric Impulse
Jockey – Ben Allen
1600m – Barrier 8
Last start winner Electric Impulse gets her shot at Black Type today when she takes on the Summoned Stakes over a mile at Caulfield. The five-year-old daughter of Cable Bay was excellent when taking out the MCC Country Series Final at Flemington three weeks ago, with subsequent winners lining up behind her in a smart field. Jockey Ben Allen stays on and leaves from a middle draw, looking for cover midfield or worse before running on in the latter stages of the race.
Speed is okay, with all of Delicious Tycoon, Running By, Poifect and Serasana to roll forward from low draws, while ex-European galloper Queues Likely ay elect to settle more forward up in distance today. Even affair. Regal Vow was a strong winner at this track last start and has an excellent record on rain-affected ground (9:3-3-2). Assuming the rain hits and you can make ground off the fence, she’s one of the main hopes. So Glamorous will be plotting a similar path but is unproven on wet ground as yet. Can make a case for Mollynickers, Zaszou and Running By, though suspect the latter wants it dry. Queues Likely next best.
Electric Impulse will appreciate any rain that falls during the meeting today, looking to get out wide and chase the leaders in the home straight. She brings strong form into this race, the query being her first look at Caulfield here. In an open race, she must be considered a leading contender.
Currently, Electric Impulse is a $9 chance in the market.
Yarra Valley
Race 3 – Im Bartholomew
Jockey – Mitch Aitken
1514m – Barrier 7
Four-year-old galloper Im Bartholomew is third-up and fitter when he heads to Yarra Valley this afternoon. The gelded son of Complacent was slowly away when beaten just over four lengths at Donald a fortnight ago in an okay effort, and will appreciate a rise in trip today. Jockey Mitch Aitken leaves from a middle gate and can roll forward in the early parts, looking to land in front or outside the lead throughout.
Sparkles Dior looks the other speed influence in the race, drawn just inside Im Bartholomew, while Mr Marigold can hold its spot from the inside alley. This galloper has been around the mark this preparation, placing on wet tracks and looking suited up in trip. Should get every chance from gate one, one of the main chances. Bonfidelity was solid enough on debut and can improve into a placing here, while Shay’s Way jumped out well before her runner-up effort on debut (beaten five lengths). Race thins out from here.
Im Bartholomew needs to begin cleanly today to find the front, on a track that tends to favour those up on speed. He’ll appreciate any rain that falls between now and start time, expecting an improved showing today. Strong each way claims.
Currently, Im Bartholomew is a $9.50 chance in the market.
