Flemington
Race 6 – Electric Impulse
Jockey – Ben Allen
1600m – Barrier 15
Cable Bay mare Electric Impulse returns to Flemington today to take on the MCC Country Series Final over a mile. The five-year-old galloper was the best of the closers at Geelong last start, finishing third and qualifying for today’s potential payday. Jockey Ben Allen will need luck from an outside draw, looking to find cover with runners behind him in a big field.
Speed is drawn across the track, with Hiyaam Proud and Oh Too Good to roll forward from wide gates, while Cruz Missile, Eskimo and Wilmott will all be thereabouts on settling. Excellent race. Oh Too Good was just that when proving too slick at Geelong first-up from a six-month layoff. She enjoyed a sweet trail there but had the race won a long way from home. Will need to get it right from a wide barrier today, but her race record is hard to knock (5:3-2-0). One of the main chances. Torranzino was strong at the end of his Hamilton heat, coming from the tail to just miss Magarten, who had pinched a break on him. He can turn the tables on that runner here. Strong each way claims. So too Hiyaam Proud, who strips fitter second-up today, and Valois, who hit the line hard at Horsham to share the spoils with Wilmott.
Electric Impulse has raced well at Flemington previously (4:1-0-1) and 1600-metres looks ideal this afternoon. She’ll need her share of luck in running, but so will some of the other main hopes in the race. The Geelong heat looks to be one of the stronger form references for this race, no surprise to see her right in the thick of things late. Each way claims.
Currently, Electric Impulse is a $27 chance in the market.
