Sandown
Race 2 – Ms Hubble
Jockey – Blaike McDougall
1300m – Barrier 9
Two-year-old filly Ms Hubble is five weeks between runs when she heads to Sandown this afternoon. The daughter of Deep Field showed good improvement at her second race start, handling the heavy conditions at Hamilton to finish third when doing her best work in the last 100-metres. Up to 1300-metres is a positive today, jockey Blaike McDougall to be forced back from a wide gate in the early stages, looking to finish the race off late in the piece.
Speed is drawn towards the inside, with all of Night Colours, Savvy Rocker and Supercilious to punch forward and likely settle in the first half of the field. Handy race. Clean Reef finished off nicely here on debut over 1000-metres, warming up late and hitting the line strongly. She ran straight past today’s rival Supercilious on that occasion. Top chance. Supercilious was less than four lengths from Blue Diamond winner Hayasugi on debut and found the 1000-metres first-up too sharp. Hard to see her turning the table on Clean Reef, but has each way claims. So too Night Colours, who swept aside her opposition at Moe last start. Harder here but can be thereabouts. Diosa and Savvy Rocker next best.
Ms Hubble will be hoping the speed is on throughout the race, giving her a chance to make some late ground here. Soft conditions won’t pull her up, but she faces a tough ask from the back of a smart field. May sneak into the top four, better next time out.
Currently, Ms Hubble is a $51 chance in the market.
Sandown
Race 6 – Brung King
Jockey – Jye McNeil
1300m – Barrier 5
Four-year-old galloper Brung King heads to Sandown over 1300-metres this afternoon, following a forgive-run at Flemington just eleven days ago. The gelded son of Crackerjack King was given no hope from a wide run on that occasion, but his effort at Swan Hill the start prior was encouraging for today. He chased home an unbeaten commodity on that occasion, that runner has since won again up in grade at Caulfield last weekend. Jockey Jye McNeil has drawn well in gate five and can enjoy a soft trail throughout, able to be strong in the back end of the race.
Speed is okay early, with Baroque Road and Holly Lolly to punch forward from the middle, while Miso and He’s Beset can both boot through from the inside and settle handy to the speed. He’s Beset was a good winner at Caulfield first-up before a solid effort as runner-up on the Lakeside circuit last time out. If there’s any hint of on-speed bias, he’ll be very hard to round up late. Top chance. Rogue Rocker and Mr Exclusive come through the same race at Caulfield a month ago, and both present fitter second-up today. Rogue Rocker went better on that occasion and does go well second run in, while Mr Exclusive has drawn for the plum trail behind the leaders. Both with each way claims. Awapuni Princess from the back and Baroque Road from the front next best in a competitive affair.
Brung King will relish any juice left in the track by this stage of the day, and draws to enjoy an ideal trail throughout the race. A repeat of his run at Swan Hill has him right in the mix today. Each way claims.
Currently, Brung King is a $26 chance in the market.
