Stony Creek
Race 8 – Brungle Raider
Jockey – Neil Farley
2100m – Barrier 6
Six-year-old galloper Brungle Raider takes on the Stony Creek Cup over 2100-metres this afternoon. The gelded son of Rebel Raider has found just one better in both the Bordertown and Naracoorte Cups this preparation, and has trialled well leading into today. Jockey Neil Farley comes into gate six post-scratchings and can let the speed battle unfold before him, taking a sit from the outset.
Just a field of seven here but the early speed battle will be keenly contested. All of Schweinsteiger, Bon Appetit, Saving and Starspangled Baby will roll forward and look to take up the running, while Fam Gorman can smoke the pipe behind them from the inside alley. Even race with every runner bar Saving quoted in single figures, and all carrying 54kg. Bon Appetit strung back-to-back wins together in weaker grade before solid efforts at The Valley at his past two starts. He’s hard fit and the stable elected to scratch the more fancied stablemate, leaving this runner in. He’ll give a sight from the front. Starspangled Baby will go with him early, tuning up for this with a run back in trip following a freshen-up. Must be considered. Fam Gorman and Confrontational will sit off the speed and hope the leaders get along at a genuine tempo. Both will be closing late. Schweinsteiger is off a nine-day break and has each way claims.
Brungle Raider is another who will be behind the speed and working into the race from the 600-metre mark. Save for the run at Seymour when given no hope, he’s been very good this campaign, and can again look the winner at some point in this. Even weights are in his favour, must be considered a winning chance.
Currently, Brungle Raider is as $4.20 chance in the market.
