Werribee
Race 2 – Twopence
Jockey – Mitch Aitken
1114m – Barrier 8
Three-year-old galloper Twopence is second-up when she returns to Werribee this afternoon. The daughter of Artie Schiller was sound here on debut over 1000-metres, making good late ground when finishing within a length of runner-up and subsequent winner Mighty Fox. Jockey Mitch Aitken leaves from towards the outside and can let his filly roll in the early parts, settling her into a nice rhythm in the front half of the field.
Speed comes from out wide with The Prayer to go fast from an outside gate, while Edge Of Seventeen can boot through and settle handy from a good draw. All The Way Baby should’ve won on debut last start, crossing the line with plenty left to give and only beaten a small margin. This looks tougher, but must be considered an each way chance. So too Edge Of Seventeen, who may have her own hard luck story from last start. Drawn for a lovely run and cannot be ignored. Others with each way claims in a race that may pay to follow the form.
Twopence was strong late on debut and up slightly in trip should suit today. She’s had a jumpout between runs, where she showed good speed and went to the line under a hold in a pleasing effort. She’s found a tough race today, but with even luck in the early stages, can finish in the top three without surprising.
Currently, Twopence is a $17 chance in the market.
Werribee
Race 4 – Maid An Offer
Jockey – Jack Hill
1629m – Barrier 10
Three-year-old galloper Maid An Offer looks to go one better than his last start runner-up effort at Werribee this afternoon. The gelded son of Bon Hoffa was sent forward and went painfully close to breaking through at Hamilton three weeks ago, gunned down by a late swooper in the final bound. Jockey Jack Hill has drawn out today, but with plenty of time to cross from the 1600-metre chute, can roll forward and settle in the first four heading into the first bend.
Not a stack of competition for the lead in this, with Moissanite and Prince Of The Nile to push forward from a middle gate, while Bonnaroo can roll across and give Maid An Offer a nice cart into the race early on. Savea ran an improved race second-up last start and looks suited up in trip today. He may settle more forward with blinkers applied today, no surprise to see him in the mix here. Moissanite ran a good race on debut before tiring from a hot speed at Sandown last start. He’ll enjoy the steadier tempo here and can be in this for longer. Race drops away from here, conceding an each way chance to debutant Storm Watch who has had early market support.
Maid An Offer only needs to hold his form from Hamilton to go close here. He should be able to find a forward position early on and can look to kick off the home bend. In a race of few chances, he must be considered a winning hope.
Currently, Maid An Offer is a $4.20 chance in the market.
