Ballarat
Race 8 – Kasami
Jockey – Jaylah Kennedy
1200m – Barrier 7
Shooting To Win mare Kasami is third-up and fitter when she races on her home track at Ballarat this afternoon. The six-year-old galloper comes back slightly in class for today’s event, following a sound effort in the wrong part of the track at Bendigo three weeks ago. Apprentice hoop Jaylah Kennedy claims down to 58.5kg, and can be positive from the outset, taking up a forward position early on.
Outsider Edgy Era will go fast in the early stages and look for the lead from a low draw, while expect Sirius Statement, Hotzel and Miss Titeline to be prominent in the long run to the turn from the 1200-metre chute. Hotzel has had two spaced career runs, winning on debut in February before a runner-up effort behind Beour Bay in May. That galloper has had a consistent preparation since, never out of the placings and winning at Caulfield in much stronger company two starts back. That’s good form for this, and Hotzel can enjoy a soft trail behind the speed here. Hardest to beat. Walk Of Fame was a winner first-up and arguably should’ve won again last start. She was held up when travelling better than the winner on that occasion, and with even luck today can be right in the finish. Sunset Dreaming was a good debut winner before making good ground from the back to just miss last time out. She’ll be hard to hold out late. Concede an each way chance to Playin’ Thru, who won on debut here on the synthetic before finding the paddock.
Kasami strikes a competitive event this afternoon, and will need to have improved on previous efforts this campaign to figure in the finish. Her best is good enough to go close, and any cut out of the ground is a bonus. She’s an each way chance at a price and can collect a cheque for connections today.
Currently, Kasami is a $51 chance in the market.
