Four-year-old galloper Rising Sun ($6) began his career in the best possible way on Sunday, leading from barrier to box to win on debut at Horsham. The gelded son of Fighting Sun was well-backed late in betting and jumped cleanly from the 1100-metre start, jockey Jack Hill able to cross and find the lead a furlong into the event. Outsider Caerau Girl ($101) moved up to challenge at the six-hundred, but Rising Sun was travelling much better and dropped off that runner approaching the home bend, slipping clear to straighten two-lengths in front of race-favourite Nullafiord ($1.85), who emerged as the only danger. But that galloper could make no inroads into the margin, Hill issuing a pair of reminders in the final stages to hold onto that two-length advantage and record a strong win. “Nice horse, he did everything right”, the hoop said post-race. “He was having a bit of a stargaze, waiting for something to come at him.
“There’s probably more improvement in him”.
Hill went on to comment that he would hit the line stronger if he had a bunny to chase, but given the conditions at Horsham on Sunday, out in front was the place to be turning for home.
There are a few options moving forward with this galloper, who will likely return to the races in the next few weeks, possibly jumping straight to 64-grade for his second race start.
