Promising mare Quick Fingers made light work of maiden company at Bendigo on Sunday, always looking in control first-up from a spell. The daughter of Caravaggio backed up her solid jumpout form with a dominant performance, justifying strong market support to win eased down by a length-and-a-half. Apprentice hoop Madison Lloyd – fresh from riding a city winner for the stable on Saturday – jumped fairly and was able to land outside the lead upon settling, effectively controlling the race from the girth of an unfancied rival. Lloyd took her four-year-old to the front at the top of the straight and promptly opened up a three-length lead, the race all but over at the furlong marker, the young jockey kind to her mare on the line. “When I got to the home corner I had plenty of horse underneath me”, Lloyd said.
“She let down really well”.
Henry was relieved to get a deserved maiden victory with his galloper. “It’s good to get the monkey off the back with her. She went close and probably should’ve won a couple of times last prep, but good to do it today.
“She should be able to win another race or two in the not-too-distant future”.
Quick Fingers will stay in the 1300-1400-metre distance range for her next start, likely in benchmark-58 grade, before having a crack at tougher opposition later in her campaign.
Sunday’s victory was a deserved milestone for the mare, who had been four-times placed from eight career starts before breaking through.
