Electric Flashes Home

Progressive galloper Electric Impulse made it three wins from four starts since joining the Dwyer camp, sprouting wings late to overrun her rivals at Flemington on Saturday. The four-year-old daughter of Cable Bay was expected to find the 1200-metre start too short, but the talented mare had other ideas, rallying strongly from the back to sweep past the field and win at her Saturday metropolitan debut. In a clever piece of planning, apprentice jockey Madison Lloyd was engaged and claimed down to 52.5 kilograms, the young rider doing a terrific job to give her mount every chance in the run. Lloyd came out of the gates cleanly and settled in the second half of the field, towards the middle of the track when runners sorted their order out. She allowed Electric Impulse to creep closer approaching the halfway mark and eased off heels soon after, giving her full bore down the centre to set out after the frontrunners, eventually claiming the lead in the final strides and registering a strong win. “She was very impressive”, Lloyd said post-race. “I just wanted to ride her in the second half of the field and she relaxed beautifully there.

“She let down beautifully and was strong through the line”.

Henry was buoyed by his runner’s performance after a short let-up. “She just tracked up so well and then released the turn of foot. I think it was the win of a really, really nice mare”.

Electric Impulse will return to the races at Geelong on October 25th, where she needs to finish in the quinella over 1500-metres to qualify for the Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Series Final back at Flemington on Oaks Day. The $500,000 Final has been her aim all preparation and on the strength of her most recent win, she’s well on track to book her spot in the feature event.

Saturday’s victory made it four wins from six starts – her third in a row since moving to Ballarat – and pushes her career earnings beyond $125,000.
