Sandown
Race 4 – Electric Impulse
Jockey – John Allen
1400m – Barrier 10
Last start winner Electric Impulse heads to Sandown to take on midweek metropolitan company over 1400-metres. The four-year-old daughter of Cable Bay is having just her fifth race start, returning from a short freshen-up following her impressive second-up win at Bendigo in June. Jockey John Allen retains the ride and will be forced back in the early stages from the outside barrier, not wanting to lose touch with the leaders around the Lakeside circuit.
In Her Stride can use her inside draw to kick-up from the start and hold a prominent position on the rail, while Enamour is the out-and-out leader in this from wider out. This galloper has been in very good form this preparation, her last six starts yielding three wins and three second-placings, where she has sat up on speed at each run. This is a step-up in grade for her but she’ll make her own luck out in front. She’s the one they’ll all have to get past to win it and is an each way chance at a big price. Versilia comes right back in grade for this, after finishing on the heels of the placegetters at Caulfield a month ago. She finished within two lengths of Beour Bay on that occasion, who progressed to win in town last Saturday. That’s good form for this, making her the one to beat this afternoon. Of the others, Magic Chloe retuned from a long spell to finish runner-up at Morphettville four weeks ago. She’ll be better for the run and has the ability to mix it with these. Sirius Statement has performed well at both runs this campaign and will be nearing peak fitness third-up. She gets a long way back in her races but if she can hold a spot today, she’ll be charging home late. Concede an each way chance to Awapuni Princess who has returned to form in a new stable. She’s another who gets back and runs on so will need luck to figure.
Electric Impulse rises in grade for today’s contest and has to contend with the outside barrier in a competitive field. With a number of back-markers in the race, Allen can look to settle just worse than midfield with cover and have a tactical advantage on those running on behind him in the closing stages. Dwyer’s mare is every bit good enough to to win a race like this, and with even luck, she can do just that this afternoon.
Currently, Electric Impulse is a $4.80 chance in the market.
