Geelong
Race 8 – The Siscos Kid
Jockey – Madison Lloyd
1230m – Barrier 8
Resuming galloper The Siscos Kid heads to the races for the first time since January, striking a competitive event at Geelong today. The seven-year-old son of Danerich had a quiet trial on the Ballarat synthetic circuit a fortnight ago in preparation for this afternoon, where jockey Madison Lloyd will look to settle midfield with cover from barrier eight.
The early speed battle looks willing, with only a short run to the bend from the 1200-metre starting point along the back. Scuderia will burn across from out wide on the track, while Aurolaa and Mandjar will punch through from nearer the inside from the outset. The race sets up for a galloper who can camp midfield with cover and run on, and Russian Summer fits that bill nicely. He’s racing in great heart and has drawn for a soft run in this. If he can avoid tiring runners in the home straight, he’ll be very hard to beat. Similar can be said for Aperol Blitz, who is first-up today. She looks to have ability, just needs some luck from a sticky draw. Bonjour can look to get on the back of this runner and get a lovely cart into the race from the back. The placing behind Demando reads well for this and he’s in form. Scuderia has jumped out well and can give them something to catch first-up. Just needs to find the front without burning too much fuel.
The Siscos Kid is yet to win in seven previous first-up attempts and will benefit from the outing today. The stable are keen to see him balance up and run through the line late, with an eye to improving second and third-up.
Currently, The Siscos Kid is a $23 chance in the market.
