Life’s a carnival for Wuddzz

Promising stayer Wuddzz added a Swan Hill carnival victory to his popular win at Warrnambool a month earlier when he ate up Sunday’s 2400-metre event on soft ground. Dwyer’s kiwi import settled closer in the run in a small field and travelled sweetly throughout, jockey Jye McNeil sweeping to the outside part of the track to overhaul race leader, and eventual runner-up Mystery Island, to score by three lengths. McNeil hinted post-race he may have hit the front too soon in the long Swan Hill straight, but felt comfortable he had the win in his keeping. “I thought he saw it out really well. If something had have come to him, he would have found a little bit more”.

Trainer Henry Dwyer was pleased with his gelding’s effort, noting there’s more improvement to come from the five-year-old. “He was good through the line. He was left out in front a long way out”, Dwyer said. “He came back and he wouldn’t have blown a candle out.

“That says to me we’re not getting to the bottom of him yet”.

Dwyer won’t rush Wuddzz back to the races, preferring to find the right race for him and keep him ticking along at home. The son of Complacent now has two wins to his name in Australia, adding to his pair of victories in New Zealand before joining the Ballarat stable.
