Progressive three-year-old Brung King returned to the winner’s stall on Sunday with a strong win from back in the field at Sandown. The gelded son of Crackerjack King drew wide from the 1400-metre start, jockey Jye McNeil forced to settle in the second half of the field in the three-wide line. McNeil travelled with cover for most of the event, pulling out at the 400-metre mark to make his run and within a matter of strides looked to have the leaders covered. The talented galloper quickly moved up and the race was over at the furlong marker, McNeil dishing out a reminder with the left hand in the closing stages to keep his mount’s mind on the job. It was a comfortable victory for the Henry Dwyer runner who is yet to miss a placing in six visits to the racetrack, the trainer pleased with the win post-race. “He probably always looked the winner from the 600-metre mark. He showed a really good turn of foot to get to them”, he said. “Jye gave him a lovely ride.
“All in all a terrific run and win”.
Brung King has recovered well from the run and will likely back-up this Saturday in a three-year-old handicap over a mile at Sandown. The rise in class looks within the scope of this promising horse who races as though the 1600-metre trip will hold no fears.
