Terang
Race 4 – Navajo Warrior
Jockey – John Allen
1850m – Barrier 5
Last start runner-up Navajo Warrior is on the quick back-up and rises in trip at Terang this afternoon. The five-year-old gelding raced leader’s back on the rail there and may not have appreciated being surrounded by runners throughout the event. He finished soundly once clear without showing a heap of dash, suggesting he’s ready for a challenge over more ground. Jockey John Allen will be positive from the jump and push across in search of the lead, the short-priced favourite drawn to his immediate outside in what is now a small field. Campeao will kick-up from inside the Dwyer runner so Allen will need to give his gelding an early dig to ensure he finds the lead. Whispering Lady will start at a short quote and deservedly so in this contest. She was narrowly beaten last start and wasn’t disgraced in Group company in the spring. If she handles the heavy conditions today she will be mighty hard to hold out. Concede Campeao is a place chance but this is a skinny race. Navajo Warrior looks the only real danger to the favourite if he’s allowed to bowl along at his leisure in front. Terang is notorious for playing with a bias – if today lends itself to leaders it will go a long way to helping the Dwyer runner find the winner’s stall for the first time.
Currently, Navajo Warrior is a $3.80 chance in the market.
