Race 4 – Flyball
Jockey – Jamie Kah
1400m – Barrier 2
Promising two-year-old Flyball meets Group-2 company at just his second race start this afternoon. The son of Starspangledbanner was very good on debut at Pakenham, settling well off the speed and running home in the quickest last 400-metres of the race. That was over 1200-metres and the extra furlong today will suit if his first outing is to be any guide. Star hoop Jamie Kah hops on today and can enjoy a soft run from an inside gate, looking to take a sit midfield with cover. As expected there are many chances in this, headed by the South Australian visitor Dubenenko. This filly was excellent in the closing stages of the Blue Diamond and with even luck she could have been in the winners stall there. This is her first go out to 1400-metres but she has a touch of class and presents as the runner to beat. Gunbare has drawn poorly at his two previous starts in Sydney, forced to race from a long way back and run home. He finished within two-lengths of Golden Slipper fancy Learning To Fly in The Millennium, that form reads well for this. Veight was visually impressive on debut and with natural improvement can run into the money here. Freakofnature beat a couple of key rivals here and is another that must be considered. Flyball was clearly best of the closers at his debut run and was full of running past the post. He was within a length-and-a-half of Brave Mead on the line there, that horse has since won with authority, albeit in weaker grade. The Dwyer runner can finish in the top six without surprising, a strong tempo could see him go even better.
Currently, Flyball is a $34 chance in the market.
