Kasami too good at Terang

Five-year-old mare Kasami registered her third win on Sunday when she won a benchmark-64 sprint at Terang in good style. The daughter of Shooting To Win relished getting her toe in the ground, working through the heavy conditions to record a half-length win. As expected the inside section of the track was showing signs of wear and runners were keen to use the extremities of the circuit to find the best going. Jockey Tahlia Hope used a wide draw to find a spot one in from the outside rail, settling just off the speed and travelling strongly throughout. Hope had to shoulder her way clear at the 400-metre mark and found clear galloping room soon after, her mare letting down to chase the leaders. Kasami looked all over a winner at the furlong marker and stuck to her task, reeling in It’s Kind Of Magic and putting the race to bed comfortably. It was a deserved win for the Dwyer runner who has been racing well this preparation. “I thought she was great”, Dwyer said. “The track downgrade just prior to our race to a heavy-8 had me a little worried”. There was no need for concern though, her form on rain-affected tracks now reads 4:2-1.

“The big difference today was how she pulled up”, the trainer explained. “She pulled up like she hadn’t been around, she had a very minimal blow”.

After Sunday’s win, the options open up for Kasami who has earnt a shot at a race in town. “Sandown Hillside is the ideal track for her I’d say. Now that she’s back in the winner’s circle we’ll try to find her a 1000-metre mares benchmark 70 there.

“She’ll just have a light workload now between runs because she is fit.”
