Honest filly Savvy Bee found winning form on the weekend, cruising to a comfortable victory at Ballarat under jockey Jye McNeil. It was a well-deserved maiden win for the daughter of Savabeel who has been competItive in all five career starts to date. McNeil gave her a lovely run, finding clear air at the right time to allow his filly to gather in the race leaders and put them away late. ”Once we got clear space she produced a fantastic turn of speed to go on and win”, the leading hoop said post-race. So convincing was the win, McNeil was easy on Savvy Bee for the last fifty metres yet still held a margin of over two lengths on the line. The three-year-old jumped well and settled midfield on the rail, looking to be in a tricky spot before navigating outside runners at the stop of the straight. From there she was full of running and it was a comfortable watch from the 300-metre mark, proving herself far too good for that class of horse. Trainer Dwyer was pleased with the performance. ”She was terrific today”, he said. ”It was all over as soon as she straightened up”.
“Shes done a really good job in her first preparation”.
Dwyer indicated that while he would check the calendar for a suitable assignment, Savvy Bee will likely head to the paddock and return when the sting is out of the ground.
