A quartet of Dwyer runners hit the road to Geelong this afternoon.
Geelong
Race 3 – Scarlet Desire
Jockey – Mitch Aitken
1400m – Barrier 8
Written Tycoon filly, Scarlet Desire, is second-up today having run well fresh behind a smart winner at this track three weeks ago. The three-year-old will take benefit from that outing and presents fitter for this assignment over a more suitable distance. Jockey Mitch Aitken will settle off the speed and ride quietly in the early stages, with most of the early speed influences drawn to the outside. Waterhouse/Bott have Let’s Roll engaged here and it will roll forward from the extreme outside as is the stable’s usual pattern. This could create an early battle for the lead and if the pace stays on, Scarlet Desire is a great chance to pick up and run into the placings late. Trainer Dwyer has indicated that his filly will be better suited at a mile but is expecting a good performance today.
Currently, Scarlet Desire is a $67 chance in the market.
Race 7 – Mortar
Jockey – Jack Hill
1300m – Barrier 10
Promising four-year-old Mortar is first-up at today after being sent to the paddock a winner back in July. That was a resounding maiden win over 2000-metres and the stable are under no illusions that their runner will find today’s run far too short. It will be a good chance for the Tarzino gelding to build some fitness following a sound trial on the synthetic, the camp keen to see him out over a trip as his preparation progresses. Jack Hill will settle rearward from an outside draw and work through the line late, though his mount will only be getting warm as he hits the line in this. Sebastian The Fox and Savvy Sovereign look hardest to beat here, conceding an each way chance to Always Hapi.
Currently, Mortar is a $67 chance in the market.
Race 7 – Friday At Five
Jockey – Mitch Aitken
1300m – Barrier 5
Four-year-old mare Friday At Five races second-up here following a good fresh run at this track in mid-December. She hit the line well from a wide run in that event and the extra distance today is ideal for the daughter of Zoustar. She’ll be better suited over a little further but trainer Dwyer is keen to see her stretch out here and run on strongly before stepping up in trip next start. Mitch Aitken will be off the speed from a middle gate and be looking for room rounding the home bend.
Currently, Friday At Five is a $61 chance in the market.
Race 8 – The Siscos Kid
Jockey – Tahlia Hope
1100m – Barrier 8
Danerich gelding The Siscos Kid returns to the track after a short spell in the last race at Geelong today. The six-year-old disappointed at his last start but was found to have a virus, and returns in much better order following a freshen up. He’ll find his rivals too slick at the trip but will take great benefit from the run, stepping out over further as his preparation continues. Jockey Tahlia Hope will snag back from a wide gate and follow the field around, clicking up late in what looks a strong benchamrk-64 race. He’s Essential and Tramontana lead the chances in an open event of many hopes.
Currently, The Siscos Kid is an $81 chance in the market.
