Debut win for Dancethenightaway

Three-year-old filly Dancethenightaway began her racetrack career in perfect fashion, leading all the way in a 1469-metre event at Kyneton. Jockey John Allen bounced well from an inside gate and held the lead comfortably from Danny O’brien’s race favourite Kildrummie, who settled second outside the Dwyer runner. Allen controlled the race from the get-go and beat off his more fancied rival approaching the bend, kicking clear from the rest of the field at the 200-metre mark to score by almost two-lengths. “I let her find her feet and she found the front naturally enough”, the star hoop said of the early stages of the race. “She was very professional”. Trainer Henry Dwyer admitted he was surprised with his filly’s first-up win. “I thought if she could be finishing thereabouts today it would be a good effort, knowing there would be good improvement to come”, he said. “She’s still learning and putting it together”.

The daughter of Highland Reel will target a three-year-old fillies race at Sandown over 1400-metres in three weeks. “I would have preferred her at a mile, but the way she began today and put herself into the race, 1400-metres will be fine”, Dwyer said. “She really has improved the last couple of weeks in her condition. She looks terrific”.
