Warrnambool
Race 1 – Pannier
Jockey – Mitch Aitken
1400m – Barrier 7
Three-year-old galloper Pannier is second-up at 1400-metres today on Jericho Cup day at Warrnambool. The gelding’s fresh effort at Terang over 1200-metres was sound, running the second fastest final furlong in the race to finish sixth. He was wayward in the run home however, and it wasn’t until he was straightened up that he really put his mind on the job and attacked the line. The winkers go on today with Mitch Aitken steering from a middle draw, which should see him take a sit just off the speed and enjoy a economical run. Price/Kent runner Floba will likely cross and lead from a wide draw, it’ll give a good sight if the run at Geelong is anything to go by. Stardom Awaayts has been installed as favourite, but with the right run Pannier will be very hard to hold out in the final stages of the race.
From the trainer:
Terang was s tarting point – he ran well, albeit doing things wrong.
He’s definitely come on since that first-up run.
He’s a good winning chance today.
Currently, Pannier is a $4.40 chance in the market.
Race 3 – Brungle Raider
Jockey – Neil Farley
1700m – Barrier 8
Last start maiden winner Brungle Raider looks to back up his dominant performance at Swan Hill in the third event at Warrnambool this afternoon. The gelded son of Rebel Raider trounced his rivals by six-lengths in an excellent first-up display but will need to keep improving to find the winner’s stall again here. Dwyer’s five-year-old had looked good at the jumpouts before his return victory, now boasting a win and two placings from five starts at the Ballarat stable. He strikes a race weakened by key scratchings and is rightly well in market expectations. Diamond Luke is racing in good heart but finds it hard to win, while Mister Businessman will enjoy running on his home deck. Springvale Road another interesting runner here.
From the trainer:
The horse is going particularly well, his win first-up was good.
He should improve from that.
I think he’s a good winning chance.
Currently, Brungle Raider is a $3.90 chance in the market.
