Spylark steps out for her second Australian start over 1400-metres at Bendigo this afternoon.
Race 4 – Spylark
Jockey – Blaike McDougall
Barrier – 3
Four-year-old mare, Spylark, returns to Bendigo today, looking to back-up an excellent debut run for the stable at this track a month ago. The daughter of Niagara was slowly away on that occasion, settling last in a big field before picking runs through the field and finishing within a length of the eventual winner. Jockey Blaike McDougall can be much closer in running today from a good draw and will seek a soft run just off the speed, giving his mount every chance to be there when the whips are cracking in the final furlong. The Dwyer runner comes up against a talented runner from the Brisbourne yard here, his unraced three-year-old colt, Gigiaton, looks to have a stack of ability and is rock solid in the market. These two appear to have the race between them.
From the trainer:
She finished off well (first-up)…in the end probably unlucky not to win.
She’s on an upward trajectory this mare.
If Gigaton wasn’t there I’d be supremely confident of her winning.
Currently, Spylark is a $5 chance in the market.
