The Dwyer camp have one runner heading to Geelong today, with Branders Rule stepping out over the 1430-metre trip in 0-64 company.
Race 5 – Branders Rule
Jockey – Mitch Aitken
Barrier – 3
Five-year-old gelding, Branders Rule, is flying the stable flag solo at Geelong today, allocated the top weight for race five on the program. The son of Brazen Beau is coming off a last-start seventh at Echuca in similar grade, beaten just over a length in an improved performance from the back of the field. The blinkers go on for the first time today, suggesting we’ll see a more forward showing at a track that has leant itself to on-speed runners for its past couple of meetings. Jockey, Mitch Aitken, has drawn well in gate three and with the rail out 7 metres, will look to settle in a prominent role approaching the home bend. Hardest to beat looks to be the Payne runner, Seonee, who has drawn gate one but is likely to drift back from the start and look for luck in the straight. Other chances are Supreme Thunder for Matty Williams and Fiorente Spritz at long odds for Paul Preusker.
From the trainer:
I don’t think his form represents how this horse is going.
He hasn’t had the best of luck, being back on leaders tracks and not having much luck. Today, from a good draw, we can probably roll forward on him.
I think he can run a really good race and I’d be surprised if he wasn’t in the money somewhere.
Currently the market has Branders Rule a $14 chance, representing great value for an each way play.
