The HDR stable has one runner today in MORPURGO at Caufield.
Caufield – Good (4)
The track at Caulfield will likely start in the Good 4 range but quickly get an upgrade with fine weather forecast. The rail is out 3m, having been after being true last weekend when the track raced very well. I suspect it will again race well but as always, good horses racing on speed will likely get some edge. Race 4 (2:05pm) Elvis Thurgood Galilee Series Final 2400m
No.8 MORPURGO– Michael Poy (Barrier 6)
MORPURGO (6) heads to Caulfield on Saturday, where he will contest the Listed 2400m Galilee Series Final (Race 4, 2.05pm). He has drawn gate six and Michael Poy rides.
MORPURGO is an out and out staying son of Toronado. He comes through a key form reference at Bendigo last time out that provides several runners in Saturday’s Final, including the favourite in THE CUNNING FOX (8). MORPURGO didn’t have an ideal run at Bendigo, being denied the opportunity to build momentum before the home bend and then being held up in restricted room late in the race. For mine, he’s a one-paced galloper who thrives on being able to build momentum and with the right run on Saturday I think he’s a terrific chance of turning the tables on THE CUNNING FOX. (Form Analyst Matt Welsh)
Today’s field looks to be what MORPURGO will meet Monday week in the St Leger on Anzac day. Coming off the luckless run at Bendigo last start, He will look to settle conservatively, allowing him to show his good turn of foot. The track layout at Caufield doesn’t look to suit but moving into the St Leger this will be a good hitout for him and he should be finishing in the top half of the field. (Stable)
