The Henry Dwyer Racing stable has one runner today in ROCK DEE JAY at Avoca.
Avoca – Good (4)
Avoca is a tight-turning track with a shortish home straight that generally suits horses up nearer the speed. As at Friday, the track is rated a Good 4 and you’d think it will race in a similar range come Saturday afternoon with a fine weather forecast. (Form Analyst Matt Welsh)
Race 3 (1:21pm) Happy 60th Birthday Bernard Maiden Plate 1300m
ROCK DEE JAY (9) heads to Avoca on Saturday where he’ll contest a 1300m Maiden (Race 3, 1.21pm). The son of Awesome Rock has drawn gate nine and Mitch Aitken rides.
ROCK DEE JAY was very plain when leading on debut when up on speed Kyneton but he quickly improved at his second start when heading to Ararat last time out. He was ridden quietly last time out and clearly appreciated that reeling off the second-best last 400/200m splits of the meeting. He is drawn a touch sticky and will likely end up back again but he is going to be strong at the end of the 1300m. The concern for mine is the fact it can often be tough to make ground at Avoca but he has come up the early market favourite and it’s easy to see why he’s firm in betting. (Form Analyst Matt Welsh)
The team make the short trip down the road to Avoca, for what looks to be a suitable race for ROCK DEE JAY to finally break his maiden. Coming off a strong second at Ararat last start and scratching last week due to a back issue he looks fit and ready to fire here. With this his last roll of the dice before a spell the team are hopeful the 3-year-old can get a win on the board for connections today. (Stable)
