The Henry Dwyer Racing stable has two runners today in VAIN FOX and HELEVA DEEL at Geelong
Geelong – Soft (6)
A storm moved through Geelong and dumped 10mm in quick time on Thursday night and there has been a little more this morning bringing the track to a Soft 6. The forecast is for significant rainfall and storms but that was also the case when we raced here last Thursday and nothing hit – so who knows how the track is going to end up?! The rail is out 8m and with wear and tear closer to the inside I’d think they will ease away from the fence if the rain comes.
Race 2 (2:00 pm) Bellarine Peninsula Thoroughbred Agistment Park 3YO Maiden Plate 1347m
No.8 VAIN FOX– Blaike McDougall (Barrier 2)
VAIN FOX (2) heads to Geelong on Friday where he will contest a 1347m Maiden (Race 2, 2.00pom). He has drawn gate two and Blaike McDougall will ride.
VAIN FOX went to Wangaratta for his debut where he worked to the line quite well, despite never looking for a genuine winning chance. The winner of that race – Ruby Mockingbird – has since won again in stronger company and there’s no doubt this gelding with both benefit from the outing and strip fitter today. Ideally, Blaike McDougall would be able to use gate two to advantage in a race there doesn’t look to be a manic tempo and try position up in the first 4-6 in running. As I mentioned prior to his debut, I think this gelding has some talent and the step in trip today is ideal.
TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $10 (as of 10am)
Race 8 (5:00 pm) Steigen BM58 Handicap 1347m
No.11 HELEVA DEEL – Mitch Aitken (Barrier 4)
HELEVA DEEL (4) heads to Geelong on Friday, where she will contest an 1347m BM58 (Race 8, 5:00 pm). She has drawn gate four, and Mitch Aitken will ride.
HELEVA DEEL has the highest career peak rating of any of these runners on my database so clearly her best is good enough to be competitive here. She has had the one jump-out here at Geelong where she looked to move quite well against a couple of her stablemates. She is going to get a gun run from gate four and the added bonus is she has handled rain-affected going in the past, so any rain wouldn’t pose an issue. She will continue to get out over further as the campaign unfolds but this looks a nice kick-off point. At $23, she certainly looks over the odds.
TAB WIN Fixed Odds – $12 (as of 10am)
